La Roche-Bernard is a very pretty, historic town overlooking the river Vilaine. There is an old port and marina where there are often several hundred yachts. Above the port you will find the old walls of the town, a square and cobbled streets containing 15th and 16th century buildings, with antique and period furniture shops, many fine restaurants, indeed the Auberge Bretagne is one of the best restaurants in France.
The town also has modern facilities including supermarkets, boulangeries etc. hotels, bars creperies and pizzerias to suit all tastes and pockets.
On a Thursday there is an open market running throughout the town, which is popular with locals from miles around. There are leisure facilities in town including a swimming pool, tennis courts, children's play area. There is also a sailing school open in the summer. Fishing permits are available from the fishing tackle shop in town.
